Marelize Schoeman

Marelize Schoeman qualified as social worker (1993) at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. She was employed for 10 years as a social worker at the Department of Correctional Services. During this period she specialised in Criminal Justice Social Work and obtained a MA degree in 1998 and her DPhil degree in 2004. She conducted research part-time until 2005 when she started a research and training consultancy.  Since then she has been involved in various research projects for, amongst others, the Department of Correctional Services, CSIR Crime Prevention Centre, Khulisa Social Solutions, Restorative Justice Centre and NICRO. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Criminology and Security Science at the University of South Africa. Marelize has been a speaker at national and international conferences and published widely in scientific journals and subject specialist books. Her research interests are focused on child justice related issues.
