Iro Michael is a PhD candidate at the Sociology Department of the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences. Her thesis focuses on restorative justice in prisons. Furthermore, she holds a Bachelor in Psychology and a Master in Criminology from Panteion University, as well as Level 5 BTEC Professional Certificate in Counselling and Counselling Skills (Edexcel).

Iro is accredited mediator, registered at the Mediators’ Register of the Cyprus Ministry of Justice, and has many hours of experience as a researcher and presenter in awareness-raising and training programs on restorative justice and on mediation, as well as member of working groups in national and EU funded projects on restorative justice, on victims’ support, and on school bullying. She is associate of the ‘Restorative Justice and Mediation Lab’ at Panteion University, while she has some teaching experience as teaching assistant of her PhD supervisor Prof. V. Artinopoulou for the courses of Domestic Violence, Victimology, Restorative Justice and Mediation. Moreover, she provides services as officer at the shelter for abused women of the Association for the Prevention and Tackling of Violence in the Family (SPAVO) in Cyprus, while she was also volunteer at the Helpline 1440. She is also volunteering as senior project officer at Restorative Justice for All Institute (RJ4All, UK).

Iro has authored peer-reviewed papers for academic journals and books in the fields of restorative justice and mediation, and of school bullying. She is secretariat of the peer-reviewed e-Journal ‘Internet Journal of Restorative Justice’, London, UK (2013-) and secretariat of the Organizational Committee of the International Symposia on Restorative Justice. Iro is a member of the Hellenic Criminologists’ Society of Panteion University (vice president 2012-2014, board member 2014-2016), member of the Greek Society for the Study of Crime and Social Control, member of the International Criminology Association, member of the Cyprus Society of Criminology and member of the Cyprus Mediation Association (currently Board Secretary).

Research Interests: restorative justice, mediation, forensic and correctional psychology, crime policy and prevention, school bullying, victimology.
